Friend with Feelings

Dear Ms. Disiac,

I'm a Year 12 student at XXXXX Secondary College who is in a dilemmna. I really like my friend (who is a girl) and we have been friends for about 7 years. However lately I have developed feelings for her aside from friendship, what should I do?

-Friend with Feelings

Dear Friend with Feelings,

Has she given you signs that she feels the same way about you? Since you are good friends, you should sit down and talk about it with her. Friendship can be a good start for a relationship. But I must warn you: this is a delicate situation that needs to be approached with caution and communication. She may not feel the same way about you, and if that is the case, you should be ready to leave it alone. Even if she is interested it would be wise to take things slow, because the idea could be startling to her. There are things that you can do to test the water. Has there been any physical connection between the two of you such as holding hands, hugs, cuddling on the sofa? If so that can help you to test the waters and to ease the transitions.
